The Andover, Kansas public school district spans 47 square miles in Butler and Sedgwick
counties. Andover is located east of Wichita and is home to approximately 10,000 people.
More than 4,200 students attend the four elementary, two middle, and two high schools in
the Andover school district. Visit us online at www.usd385.org.
Andover Public Schools hold high expectations for students and staff. Andover schools
take pride in their academic excellence and progress to exceed local, state, and NCLB goals.
Our tradition of excellence is evident in our National Merit Finalists and Semi-Finalists, 120 state Standard of
Excellence awards since 2001, numerous state championships in athletics and activities, and regional and national
recognitions awarded to programs and staff. Andover is a progressive district focused on helping students succeed.
The Board of Education is committed to small schools and small class sizes. Andover Public Schools is the third fastest growing school district in the state of Kansas. In 2006 enrollment grew by 153 students. In September 2005,
the community supported by a nearly three to one margin a $39.68 million bond issue to address the needs of our
growing enrollment. Included in the bond issue is the building of three new elementary schools – one, Robert M.
Martin Elementary School, opened August 20, the other two, Wheatland and Prairie Creek Elementary Schools, will
open in August 2008. Also included are athletic and activity facility improvements, a new competition gym and
additional classrooms at a high school, additional classrooms at an elementary school, and safety and security
improvements district-wide.
The district enjoys a partnership with Butler Community College that allows high school students the opportunity to
earn college credit hours. The district also participates in the Butler County Special Education Cooperative and the
South Central Kansas Education Service Center. Andover employs counselors and nurses in each building, has
intervention and prevention teams available to work with at-risk students, employs paraprofessionals to assist
librarians and teachers, and has active parent volunteer organizations that enhance learning experiences.
Members of the Andover Public Schools Board of Education are President Nancy Kirkendoll, Vice President Roger
Elliott, and members Dale Graham, Jeff Ablah, Carly Haynes, Dr. Linda Hope and Clare Wilkins. The Board of
Education meets at 6:30 pm the second Monday of each month at the District Office, 1432 N Andover Road. All
meetings are open to the public except for executive sessions. Contact the Clerk of the Board at (316) 218-4668 or
